Puppy toilet training is the most important part of any dog obedience training. Potty training your puppy means you need to house train your puppy so that it eliminates outdoors or in a designated indoor area rather than anywhere in the home.

3. Feeding should take place at the same times every day. Do not feed within four hours of bedtime and withdraw the water bowl two hours before bedtime. A routine is essential. That means you too have to stick to a routine by getting up and going to bed at the same time every day.

4. Behaviors that indicate puppy needs to go outside include sniffing the ground and circling. Again, because puppy is only little, it won't exhibit these warning signs for very long.

5. Take the puppy outside into the yard or for a walk first thing in the morning, 10 to 15 minutes after every meal or drink and last thing at night. Do not play with them until they have eliminated. If after 10 minutes there is no action take the puppy back to its crate. Wait 10 to 15 minutes then take them out again.

6. Be stern and consistent. It's confusing for a dog if it only gets scolded sometimes for peeing on the floor. The lesson will be learned much faster if the pooch is scolded for every mess you find. Just don't forget to give puppy some lovin' after about 15 minutes or so after the scolding.

7. Be sure to praise the puppy and reward them with a little playtime every time it does "the business".

8. Restrict your puppy to rooms with washable floors until he is house trained.

9. You can roughly calculate the maximum amount of time a puppy can be kept in a crate is by using this equation: its age in months, plus one. So, a three-month old puppy can be crated for a maximum of four hours.

10. You should really take puppy out at least once every two hours during the day. If puppy is sleeping, just let it sleep until puppy wakes up naturally.
